Verifying Installation

This chapter describes how to verify OpenFrame Base installation using the data set tool.

1. Overview

OpenFrame Base system supports a wide range of data sets and can display messages to a system administrator through the system console.

2. Verification Procedure

The following describes the procedure for verifying installation of the Base system using the data set tool.

  1. Start the Server

Check that the server for Base installation verification is running using the data set tool.

  2. Create a Copybook

Create a copybook to generate a VSAM data set. The data set is a Key-Sequenced Data Set (hereafter KSDS), with records stored in ascending order of the key fields. The TEST-K field is the key field of the KSDS, and the data set is created with a length of 80 and a key length of 10.

           01 TEST.
              03 TEST-K PIC X(10).
              03 TEST-F PIC X(70).
  3. Create a KSDS

The idcams tool can be used to create or delete VSAM data sets or user catalogs, and the REPRO command can be used to copy data sets. Examples are as follow:

    > idcams define CL -n TEST.KSDS -o KS -k 10,0 -l 80,80

    idcams version 7.3.0(3) obuild@mw3-1-Dell:ofsrc73/base(#2) 2023-04-26 11:02:28

    /home/binstall64/OpenFrame/tsam/temp/TEST_KSDS.tbc is precompiled successfully!

    COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY.
  4. Display Details of Items Registered in the Catalog

The listcat tool can be used to display detailed information about KSDS registered in the catalog. As shown in the following example, using the -l option displays detailed information of cataloged items.

    >listcat TEST.KSDS -l
    listcat version 7.3.0(2) obuild@mw3-1-Dell:ofsrc73/base(#2) 2023-04-26 11:02:28

  5. Create a Non-VSAM Data Set

Non-VSAM data sets are created by accepting input variables from the user using dscreate tool.

    > dscreate TEST.NVSM -l 300 -f VB -b 3000

    dscreate version 7.3.0(0) obuild@mw3-1-Dell:ofsrc73/base(#2) 2023-04-26 11:02:28

    OFRUISVRDSCRE: Dataset Create OK. dsn=TEST.NVSM
    COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY.
  6. Query Details of the Non-VSAM Data Set

You can query information about data sets generated in VOLUME using the dslist tool. Using the dslist -l option displays detailed information about the data set. The LRECL, RECFM, and BLOCK SIZE parameters used in the dscreate tool are set.

    >dslist TEST.NVSM -l
